Cockscomb: Jaguar Proud :: editor / co-director / 2nd camera:: 2009

The Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary was the world's first jaguar reserve. Today, more than twenty years after its creation, the sanctuary remains a model for wildlife conservation - and a point of pride for all Belizeans, who have long revered the jaguar in spirit and flesh. In this film, CAVU takes you airborne, high above the Cockscomb wilderness for an overhead look, then deep into its leafy jungles, where scientists, park rangers, Mayan leaders and ranchers discuss the future of the reserve and its jaguars. Working together with local communities, the Wildlife Conservation Society, Panthera and Belize Audubon are helping to ensure that the Cockscomb sanctuary forever remains a sacred place for all Belizeans - and the jaguar.

In this scene we are introduced to the people who live around the Cockscomb and the iconic animal who calls it home.

Produced by CAVU, Wildlife Conservation Society, Panthera and Belize Audubon Society.
